Im a basketball player. 10th grade in high school, trying to play college?

trying to play college basketball. i will either on JV or Varsity next year. what i DONT understand is. whenever i lay againts good COMPETITION in basketball. i play well. but when i play againts SUCKY people who are really really worste then me, i dont do good. i dont understand. is it becuase i dont try as hard?
